ISLAMABAD: The petition against the appointment of the chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), Mohsin Naqvi, has been challenged in the Islamabad High Court, according to Geo News.

Chief Justice Islamabad High Court Aamer Farooq has reserved verdict on hearing case against appointment of PCB Chairman Naqvi.

According to the petitioner, Pakistan constitution clearly differentiates between an elected prime minister and a caretaker. The caretaker doesn’t have the authority to nominate chairman of the PCB as its patron-in-chief.

It must be noted that Naqvi was elected unopposed as the new chairman of the PCB last month.

The election, which confirmed Naqvi's appointment for a period of three years, took place at the National Cricket Academy in Lahore.

PCB Chief Election Commissioner Shah Khawar officially announced the decision soon after the election.

“I am deeply honoured and humbled to have been unanimously elected as the Chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board. I am thankful for the trust and confidence reposed in me," Naqvi said.

“I am fully committed to upgrading the standard of the game in the country and bringing professionalism in the administration of cricket in Pakistan.”

The 45-year-old is the 37th chairman of the PCB.

Earlier, PCB had announced the composition of Board of Governors (BoG) ahead of the elections.

The BoG had been formed in accordance with Paragraph 10 of the PCB Constitution 2014.

After the caretaker Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar’s nomination, Naqvi replaced former chairman of the PCB Management Committee Zaka Ashraf, who had resigned, in the BoG.
